Or instead of a dream, you have a quick chat via IM or text, or go for an innocent coffee… then spend the next 6 hours going “WHY did I do that?! I was doing so well…”
Quick chat being key and the lamenting afterwards that stretches on and on and on….

I hear you hun! I had those feelings, then I had dreams too and well, fuck. It sucks haha.

Yes. Yes. AND yes.
<3 you’re both lovely
punkassjim replied to your post: It’s always a strange thing wondering whether you…
I’d very much like to hear about this dream.
It wasn’t much of one, though. Something about an airport and a movie. It’s the dull ache you wake up with that’s most upsetting. Still, it’s not a terrible distraction to have I suppose.

AND THE WORST.
totallyaddie replied to your post: I feel like I’m starting to reconsider this red…
The key to red upkeep is throwing a demi-permanent colour on every 3-ish weeks. The supplies needed are like, $10-15 and will last you at least two touch ups. Depends how light of red you want and how dark you come in naturally tho.
I have pretty dark hair. I have to use the L’Oreal hi colors and 40 developer to get any red to stick and even then it’s still a pretty dark, muted red. Then it would fade to a weird orange and meh. It just looks sloppy lately. I have the Tressa Watercolors, which has dye in it and is a pretty soft shampoo. Doesn’t smell or leave my hair feeling damaged or anything. It lets me wait a bit longer to touch up. I have dry shampoo to use so I don’t wash it daily and then use the Tresemme color shampoo a few times a week. I don’t know, just not feeling too impressed with the color lately. :( I have a feeling too that it still needs to grow out from the first time I dyed it. I had to strip my hair from previous dyes I didn’t know I still had and that really did a number on it. It kind of turns your hair orange to begin with and I think some of that hasn’t really grown out or taken to new dye/touch-ups.
yourfellowclassmate replied to your post: I feel like I’m starting to reconsider this red…
I feel ya! My red gots to go too. 60$ a pop for touch ups is a killer on my budget.
Eesh! Yeah, I wouldn’t be able to last long as a redhead with that price! I remember the days I used to be able to afford to go to a salon every month and pay $45-60 to have it trimmed up. Sigh. Someday again! There’s a nice “pinup” salon down the street that has prices starting at $35! Not terrible. Usually with short hair they don’t charge much, Might give it a try this week or next :)
colorfuloddity replied to your post: I feel like I’m starting to reconsider this red…
ufgh red is so hard to maintain yey for not feeling shitty! I’ve started being a bit more active and feeling a little better overall :)
I know, I was doing pretty good a few months ago! But then my moods took a dive and out went all my good habits with it. It’s been like a vicious cycle ever since. CURSE MOOD SWINGS!
I LOVE Boardwalk!!
Boardwalk is seriously one the best shows ever! And the wardrobe is aaa-mazing!
Ladies and gentlemen, this user is no longer here. The show has her. Please leave a message and she will get back to you as soon as the season is over. *beep*

punkassjim replied to your post: How about I just make a note of the entire set list at the next dance I attend. DJ’d music around here has reached a really boring juncture.
colorfuloddity replied to your post: Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho
harvesterofhearts replied to your post: our scene lags behind by like…10 years. We’ve only just got “I like pie”. Lots of jive aces and cheesy stuff like that :(
swinginforbreakfast replied to your post: They’re great songs, so it’s not super bad, but “I Like Pie” and “Long Gone John” by Gordon Webster.
eldergreene replied to your post: The Jungle Book song
beckzorz replied to your post: That five minute version of Blues My Naughty Sweetie Gives To Me. And this isn’t a bad thing, really, but every dance I’ve been to almost has featuerd “I Like Pie” off Gordon’s new CD.
swingdancing replied to your post: String of Pearls, I mean its not a bad thing… but I hear it all the time
doodledemoon replied to your post: My goodness is there a list! In the Mood, Sing Sing Sing, Stompin at the Savoy, Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree, One O’clock Jump, Caldonia, Sentimental Journey…..basically any song that is on a compilation disc of swing music is over played.
mistermigy replied to your post: <3 the overplayed song. They are overplayed for a reason. What I find interesting is when the same song is played over an event by different DJs. At one event I heard Sixteen Tons a total of 5 times!
yourfellowclassmate replied to your post: I haven’t been in my local scene in over a year but I remember they played Queen’s “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” quite often. And Stray Cats songs were pretty popular too.
ahaleyscomet replied to your post: We get a lot of jump blues done to death over here. I used to call “Who threw the whiskey in the well” our scene anthem.
How curious. Is it safe to say that “I Like Pie” is a nationally (even internationally) overplayed song? Oddly, out of the few DJ’d dances I do attend, it’s always the Four Clefs’ version. It does its job every time, though, doesn’t it? I guess, like mistermigy said, that’s why they’re overplayed.
Weekly DJ’d dances must be a very hard thing to maintain. If you don’t have continuous variety, you get that monotony Jim mentions. For me anyway, my outing to the Golden Vagina China every week isn’t really a means to dance my heart out but to catch up with friends and maybe practice some moves off in the corner. It helps that it’s only 5 minutes away and free too.
LindyGroove, I think, has the ideal structure. While it still maintains a similar schedule, they bring in DJs from all over to spin every week. When I go there, I expect to dance my ass off and I always expect something different.
I’ve been organizing my music collection the last couple weeks and picking out tunes that may do well in the Ventura scene. It’s a very interesting balance to have to maintain. While you want to throw your own personality into the mix, you still have to please the crowd—a loyal group that may be perfectly content with dancing to the same handful of songs every week.
We’re more of a jump blues scene and I have quite a handful of Buddy Johnson and Lucky Millinder that would do the trick (among others). But I would love to play some Artie Shaw or Dr. Michael White or Petunia and the Vipers without things getting weird.
When you have the same group of people attending every week and dancing to the same tunes time and again, how do you gently break up the monotony without scaring away those who may be too afraid of breaking a routine?
It blows my mind that this could even be an issue at some weekly dances because of how much music was recorded during that era (from, what, late 30s through the 60s just about?).
On a completely different note, it’s funny when I hear a song and think, “Oh this would be good to play in this city or that city.” It’s fun to watch how other scenes dance and how they present themselves. Granted, I’m only familiar with the California scenes but it’s amusing to notice all of the little nuanced differences in our styles of dancing.
ANYWAY, thank you for answering my question and being such a fantastic community.

Answer:
I did post a video a few weeks back. I haven’t been before but I’m looking forward to checking it out this weekend! It’s really just a bunch of people dressing to the nines and enjoying Disneyland. They have little gatherings throughout the day, but otherwise it’s all about dressing as if the park just opened and having fun and meeting other vintage enthusiasts. It should be quite fun! I know windyyenchantment is going and I’m trying to drag my sister along for the first half of the day. Hope all is well with you too and you had a lovely birthday! <3
#yourfellowclassmate #dapper dayLiza, ya sexy fuck. Goddamn.
Lookin’ fierce!

Love you both <3
Ughh american the office NO. Also I like community but the last couple seasons weren’t as good as I thought the first was.
I want to like them. I mean Nick Offerman’s moustache is enough to keep me watching P&R. I just don’t care enough about the characters, though. They seem so flat. Then again, it’s NBC.
You’re going to look fantastic! Those boys better watch out… they’re gonna be picking their jaws up off the floor.
You’re such a doll! I’m going to wear the hell out of these dresses. Cannot WAIT to show them off.

Ah, thank you! The swing practice went well. I feel pretty comfortable with the speed of the routine and everything. The one move that caused me to pull a muscle I’m still not comfortable with (my leg already feels a bit wonky), so hopefully we can alter it a bit. =\

<3 I was thinking about a very tumblr hopper Christmas too! Great minds think alike. :) It was lovely seeing you and dancing with you haha.
Ah, wonderful! Missy brought up the idea earlier. We should definitely try to have a little holiday get together.
And thank you for the dance too, haha ;)
The Lindy Groove Halloween Ball was incredible and that was easily one of the best sets I’ve heard David spin. Every song was spot on and unique and went with the night. It was all brilliant. There were so many creative costumes and so many lovely people in attendance. I haven’t been to a shindig like that in ages.
I don’t know who the alien was, though, and he freaked me the fuck out. Growing up, I was always really scared of the idea of aliens. This dude had the full mask and everything. I thought he was a prop for a good while. Then he motions me to dance with him and while his style felt familiar, I had no idea who it was.
For it having been nearly a week since my last dance, I felt pretty great out there. I’m looking forward to next weekend where I’ll hopefully have three nights of dancing and (if I allow myself) maybe I’ll visit Joe’s this coming Monday for Icy Hot Club too.
I mean, it really is a type of addiction, isn’t it? Even a pulled muscle couldn’t keep me away from hobbling about out there.
Not too many people seemed to recognize the Joan costume, though the few who did were quite giddy about it. The show’s consumed such a large portion of my life that I keep forgetting a good portion of America probably doesn’t watch it (deal breaker).
There was one gentleman who asked me to dance this very slow number, which can be a bit awkward at times. Not everyone is well-versed in blues, and a slow lindy even seemed a bit silly. But it’s fun to play with the timing… taking extra turns, taking more time to turn, etc. Letting your hand graze across his back, allowing his to explore your waist. I live for simple flirtations.
So happy to have seen my girls last night! I can’t wait to get together again. A tumblr hopper Christmas party would be fun too, ngl.

punkassjim said: I don’t see it. But clearly that doesn’t nullify your damn good looks.
yourfellowclassmate said: I love those kind of people. I try not to question them haha.
tangledletters said: no, actually, they’re right. There is some resemblance! (Also, you’re gorgeous! Not horrible looking, harhar, as if)
I think the only thing Elizabeth Taylor and I have in common is the fact that we both have short, dark curls and bright eyes. To me, Taylor exemplified beauty. There’s just no comparison. But shit, I’ll take the compliment! It’s flattering as all hell. A couple of people have thrown out Christina Hendricks too, but that was always in comparison to my curves and well… aside from the fact that my boobs are smaller and my ass ridiculously larger, these curves can be pretty deadly.
By the way, have I mentioned how lovely you all are? Because it’s true.
