Damage: two blisters, a huge bruise, and a numb toe. Clearly I should invest in some new dancing shoes.
I didn’t even dance nearly as much as I had planned. I originally wanted to go to the Sunday night dance as well, but I had other issues that clouded my mind most of the weekend and I didn’t plan for the three hour break between classes and the nightly dances.
The dance I did go to on Saturday night was an absolute blast, though. So many talented, lovely people. The band was absolutely amazing. The venue was beautiful. I felt overly stimulated, even. Whenever someone came up to ask me to dance I just sort of gaped at them and nodded. I didn’t feel I was at my best, though. Just from other things that clouded my mind and watching all of the dancers Saturday night, I felt a little like Bambi out there. I’m such a shy little thing.
The classes were pretty fun too, though I do wish I had gone with the intermediate track. As much as it doesn’t hurt to learn more about connection and 20s/30s Charleston… after five minutes I kind of had it down.
I’d really love to take like a week off and just spend time at home and in the City dancing. I’d really like to visit more venues up there.Lindy hoppers tend to be an interesting mix of super-shy and super-outgoing. Hard to tell which will manifest at what times. Either way, it was great to get a dance with you! Sorry I didn’t get back around for a second one like I wanted to…it was a pretty jam-packed night.
The Sunday night dance had a few fantastic performances by Chester Whitmore and friends (I’m sure you’ll see videos on Facebook), but the social dancing wasn’t so great. This being my first big weekend event ever, I learned something valuable: if there’s a good live band, I can overcome any level of exhaustion; but if it’s just a DJ’ed dance, it’ll have to be a frickin’ amazing DJ to get people to shine through the fatigue.
Thank you kindly for the dance, sir! It was nice meeting you. I look forward to seeing all of the videos pop up online. I left around midnight on Saturday and by the time I got around to my car I still saw so many people dancing. It was amazing. I kind of wondered how a DJ’ed dance would go on a Sunday night. Usually the ones I go to on Thursdays kind of die by 9:30 p.m. or so. I hope there were good tunes, at least.
