I used to get really crazy about it. I’d make sure to see every nominated film, or as many as I could. I’d watch the whole red carpet ceremony. I’d keep track with a checklist that came in the Chronicle. I’d read up on analysis the week following. I’d practice my award speech in the shower. I’d pretend I wore some slick black number and got nominated for a screenplay.
The last movie I saw was The Artist a month ago. Before that I think it was Midnight in Paris over the summer. I used to go every week with my dad when I was younger. I feel movie quality has gone down a bit in the last decade. At least nothing has caught my eye enough to convince me to shell out $12 for a matinee. (That is the cost of a swing dance, after all.) Still, I should try to see more this year whether it’s via Netflix or elsewhere.
